Flying visit to Singapore

Just a short post about Singapore as we were there for a matter of hours rather than days.  We flew in from Sydney, checked in to a hostel for one night, had a few hours to walk around the city the following before heading back to the airport for an afternoon flight.

A few words that sum up Singapore: efficient, tidy, surprising!  Singapore is known to be a clean and tidy city but some people say it's sterile and lacks personality.  Well it certainly is clean, and there are plenty of business types walking around with purpose.  However, when we had a wander around we saw a real mish-mash of cultures and ethnicities, yet they all seemed to live in harmony.  We found Little India, which is a really charming part of the city, worlds away from skyscrapers yet not far from their shadows.

This might be quite sad but I must comment on Singapore's airport.  Airports are rarely nice places to be, they are a means to an end, but Singapore's Changi Airport is marvellous.  Everything is just so well thought out and we didn't have to queue for anything.  I guess it's because they have so many passengers transiting here.  My only criticism would be food choices, the majority is Asian but when you are tired and jet lagged being adventurous is not always one's top priority and an egg and bacon sarnie would do just fine.
