Kuala Lumpur

We've just had a brief stop in Kuala Lumpur whilst journeying from the Perhentian islands to Nusa Lembongan, Bali, our favourite place to dive. I'm not sure that there is a great deal to see or experience in KL, as it feels like a quite a young city and lacks some of the history we've seen in other capitals. Having said that, we had a great time wandering around the markets of Chinatown, overflowing with knock-off goods, grabbed a curry in Little India, before standing at the foot of the Petronas Towers and looking up in awe. The city is clean too. Not quite Singapore clean, but in a different league to dirty Bangkok.

After locating the Petronas Towers in the business district we curiously stepped inside and unexpectedly found ourselves inside a large, high-end shopping mall. If you name any top brand, they were there. For Nilgun, shops selling expensive leather handbags are like something shiny and sparkly to a Magpie. She was quickly sampling the latest offerings from Mulberry, inquiring on prices as if we could afford one! I'm pretty sure the sales assistant from Chloe clocked us immediately as poor backpackers who are wearing the same clothes for the hundredth time.
After realising nothing in the shopping mall was affordable, we found our way to the cinema and got tickets to the latest Men in Black movie. Fortunately, the price of two tickets, drinks and popcorn is less than the cost of a single UK cinema ticket (why are they so bloody expensive back at home?).

Our final stop before heading back to the guesthouse was the KL tower. With an observation deck higher than it's counterpart in the Petronas Towers, and much cheaper tickets, it was the better option of the two. The idea was to watch sunset but due to the thick cloud choking KL it didn't really materialise. The view was okay, but not remarkable.
We enjoyed our brief visit of KL, but really, this felt more like an interlude before getting back to the beach in Bali. Can't wait!
